Road safety is increasingly coming under the spotlight. Every year, more than 1.35 million people die on the world's roads and millions more are seriously injured. Road deaths are the eighth highest cause of death for people of all ages and the number one killer of those between the ages of 5-29. Moreover, pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists (collectively known as vulnerable road users) make up more than half of all road deaths.

In the US, latest statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimate 20,175 people died in motor vehicle traffic crashes in 1H 2022, an increase of about 0.5% compared to 20,070 fatalities estimated by the NHTSA for the first half of 2021.
